Terrorism 101 for Frontline Police Officers course brochure

Registration: $1,200 per attendee, $1,100 before 30 October 2017

This course is designed for Canadian frontline police officers and other first responders. The objective of the course is to produce an officer who has a basic understanding of terrorism and what to look for during routine stops or casual conversation during community contact programs. The course covers the origins and evolution of modern terrorism, terrorist motivation and strategies, the tactics, targets, and weaponry of terrorists who pose a threat to Canada, and indications and warning signs.

Presenters are subject matter experts in the area of terrorism. They include:

Dr. G. Davidson (Tim) Smith is a former CSIS Counter-Terrorism analyst and holds a PhD in International Relations with a specialty in counter-terrorism. He is the author of “Combating Terrorism” (Taylor and Francis Ltd.).

Mr. Phil Gurski, President of Borealis Threat and Risk Consulting and a former strategic analyst at CSIS. He is the author of “The Threat from Within: Recognizing Al Qaeda-inspired Radicalization and Terrorism in the West” (Rowman and Littlefield).

Colonel (Retd) Patrick D. R. Crandell who has 36 years experience in Intelligence and Security at the operational and strategic levels. He was the Canadian Defence Attaché in Indonesia.

Lt. Colonel Donald W Corbett, a retired Military Engineer the Deputy Commander/Chief of EOD for the CF Counter IED Task Force. He has worked closely with Canada's NATO Allies and Canadian Police Services primarily in the areas of Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Counter IED.
